Coronavirus New Haven: Homeless Man Escapes Quarantine, Found

New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker said a 10-year-old child has tested positive for the new coronavirus.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Mayor Justin Elicker said New Haven as of Sunday afternoon now has 12 confirmed positive cases of the new coronavirus including its first pediatric case, which involves a 10 year old. The child is currently in stable condition at a local hospital, the mayor said.

Elicker said the reality is that there are many more cases out there that have yet to be confirmed by testing.

He also said a homeless man, who tested positive for the coronavirus left the hospital Sunday morning despite a public health order not to. He said police were looking for the man who needs to be brought back to quarantine.

The man was born in 1969 and was wearing a black leather jacket, jeans and had a black backpack. The New Haven Independent reports that the homeless man has been found. He was found near Gateway Community College, but in an update the New Haven Independent reports that it was the wrong man and that the right person was found in Milford at 7 p.m. (To sign up for New Haven breaking news alerts and more, click here. )

Elicker also said there is a great need for N95 masks for police and fire. He urged residents to drop off N95 makes at local fire stations. Elicker said he personally found some masks in his basement and is donating them.
