Danbury veteran David Vieira is being recognized for dedication to country and community in the VFW #StillServing campaign. The national Veterans of Foreign Wars #StillServing campaign launched in March 2020 to recognize veterans who continue to serve in their community after the military.

Vieira recently began an initiative to build the Connecticut Afghanistan and Iraq Veterans War Memorial, the first in the state of Connecticut. He recruited members of his VFW Post to form a committee, began raising funds and is building a website and social media presence. The idea has the backing of Danbury Mayor Dean Esposito and Veterans Affairs Director Danny Hayes.

Vieira is also #StillServing at VFW Post 149 in Danbury where, as Sr. Vice Commander, he has helped recruit younger veterans to secure the future of the Post and enable it to become more active in the community. He created a Post website, started a barbecue that has raised over $2,000 for local youth sports organizations including high school, little league and college teams, and traveled to Washington D.C. to advocate for the recently passed PACT Act.
