Dead Inmate ID'd After New Haven Correctional Incident

State Police and the DOC are investigating. A DOC lieutenant has been placed on leave.

NEW HAVEN, CT — The Department of Correction identified Carl Talbot, 30, as the man who died following an incident at New Haven Correctional Center Thursday, according to the New Haven Register.

Talbot was serving a nine-month sentence for second-degree breach of peace and sixth-degree larceny, according to court records. He was due to be released by May 28, according to DOC records.

Talbot refused to exit a shower are around 6:45 a.m. Thursday.

"After several attempts, responding staff members were able to restrain the offender in the facility’s medical unit," said Andrius Banevicius, spokesman for the department in a Thursday statement.

Talbot became unresponsive. Staff performed lifesaving measures and called 911.

He was taken to a local emergency room and was pronounced dead at 9:40 a.m.

State Police are also investigating the incident. A correction lieutenant has been placed on administrative leave.
