Dogs That Mauled New Haven Woman to Death Euthanized

The two dogs were euthanized Wednesday after being placed in quarantine.

New Haven, CT- The two American bulldog mixed breeds that mauled a New Haven woman to death were put down Wednesday.

The dogs named Nomad and Pirate were euthanized on schedule, according to the New Haven Register.

Jocelyn Winfrey, 53, died June 27 after she succumbed to her injuries from the June 20 attack.

"The dogs that attacked were lawfully owned and on private property," Officer David Hartman, police spokesman previously said. "Their owner is not charged in connection to this tragic occurrence. There is no criminality attached to this case independent of the drug charge."

The police investigation into the matter is closed.

Winfrey went to her friend Hamilton Hicks' Ella T. Grasso Boulevard residence the evening of June 20. Hicks said that Winfrey walked on to his property and to the fenced-in area when the dogs turned on her and attacked.
She was rushed to the hospital with extensive injuries.
