The shelter already has a deep waiting list.

NEW HAVEN, CT — A New Haven emergency shelter will close at the end of August. Careways Shelter for Women and Children will close after 27 years.

The cost of operating the 10-unit shelter has gone up while public funding hasn't, according to Fox 61.

There are more than 30 families on the wait list for the shelter. Current residents will likely move to one of New Reach's two other shelters or another community shelter.
