Former Hillhouse Basketball Star Arrested

A former star was arrested at Bryant University after he broke into a townhouse and assaulted residents, police said.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Former Hillhouse Academy basketball star Joseph Kasperzyk, 19, was among three people arrested for an alleged assault at Bryant University in Rhode Island.

Bryan public safety officers contacted police April 7 about a reported assault at a townhouse. The townhouse residents told police that the three suspects broke into the townhouse and began banging on bedrooms doors while they were sleeping, police said.

The three suspects then assaulted two residents, broke a TV and tore posters off the walls.

Kasperzyk, Zahir Williams, 20 of Bronx, NY and Shelton McNeal, 20, of Florida were all charged with breaking and entering, simple assault, disorderly conduct and conspiracy. They were all released on $1,000 bail and are due in court in July.

Kasperzyk played four years at Hillhouse Academy and a postgraduate season at Woodstock Academy in Connecticut. He helped lead Hillhouse to state championships in 2016 and 2017, according to his biography on the Bryant University Bulldogs site. He was a two time all-state and three time all-area honoree.
