Gun Threats Lock Down Wilbur Cross, Hillhouse Schools: Officials

Cops no longer view the Wilbur Cross report as credible, but at Hillhouse, a social media threat is still being investigated, official said.

NEW HAVEN, CT —Two New Haven high schools were locked down over a gun threat, and a report of a person with a gun heading toward one school, officials said.

"Due to threats posted this morning on social media naming Hillhouse High School, that school is implementing an early dismissal for students," said New Haven Public Schools spokesperson Justin Harmon.

Harmon said New Haven police are investigating the threat.

And this morning, Wilbur Cross High School was temporarily lockdown after a report about a person "carrying a gun ...walking toward" the school.

Harmon said that while police will "continue to search the school thoroughly for any weapon," authorities "no longer view the report as credible."

But, the school is nonetheless going to dismiss students early, Harmon said.
