NEW HAVEN, CT — The halfway house resident hospitalized with flu-like symptoms Wednesday has tested not positive for the new coronavirus, officials announced. The resident of the Roger Sherman House in New Haven was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital after exhibiting flu-like symptoms.

The Roger Sherman House has returned to normal operations following consultation with members of the New Haven Health Department, officials said on Thursday. Out of an “abundance of caution,” the residents and staff at the halfway house refrained from leaving the halfway house pending confirmation of the test results, according to officials.

“I commend the staff of the Roger Sherman House, their parent company The Connection, Inc., and our Parole and Community Services staff for their professional and judicious handling of this situation,” Department of Correction Commissioner Rollin Cook said. “The precautionary actions taken were in the best interests of the offenders under their supervision, their staff and the public at large.”
