Ice Carving Competition & A Cappella Concert
Six professional ice carvers will each transform nine hundred pounds of ice into a spectacular sculpture in only four hours.
From Yale University: On Saturday, December 7, 12:00-4:00pm, six professional ice carvers will each transform nine hundred pounds of ice into a spectacular sculpture in only four hours during the 3rd Annual Ice Carving Competition & A Cappella Concert on Broadway Island, located at 56 Broadway — across from Apple/lululemon/J.Crew. The event will feature live performances by many accomplished a cappella groups, including The Yale Alley Cats, NOTEoreous (Southern Connecticut State University), Something Extra, Proof of the Pudding, Yale Women's Slavic Chorus, Yale Out of the Blue, The Quinnipiac Legends (Quinnipiac University), The Yale Spizzwinks and more!
A free hot cocoa contest has been added to the festivities this year, available to the first 250 guests to check in at The Shops at Yale table beginning at 12:00pm. Free horse-drawn carriage rides throughout historic downtown will be offered from 12:00-4:00pm. The pick-up location is across from Patagonia and GANT at the corner or York and Elm Streets.
This event is free and open to the public. There will be great photo opportunities with the finished ice sculptures after the competition, and a chance to win gift cards and other prizes during the live raffle at 4:00pm. Free event parking is available at the 150 York Street Garage for the first 250 cars to arrive. Simply bring your parking ticket to The Shops at Yale table at the event for a validation stamp.
