Imam of New Haven Mosque Detained: Report

He had an outstanding deportation order, ICE officials said.

NEW HAVEN, CT — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has detained a imam from a large New Haven mosque due to a deportation order.

Imam Hasiz Hannon of Majid Al-Islam was taken into custody on May 19, according to NBC Connecticut. He is a citizen of Pakistan and the deportation order was issued in March 2016.

An ICE spokesman said that he has a previous federal conviction for committing fraud on immigration documents.
