It's Not A Cop, It's A Con: New Haven Police Caution About Scam Calls
The scammer calls claiming to be a police officer and says that a fine is due for missing a court date or jury duty. Hang up, real cops say.

NEW HAVEN, CT —The person making what police say is a scam call, tells folks they're a cop and then asks that a fine by paid for missing a court date and/or jury duty.
It's a con.
"The New Haven Police Department does not call residents if they miss a court date or jury duty, and will never ask for payment of any kind," said police spokesperson Scott Shumway.

Shumway said that anyone who gets a call like this should:
- Not provide personal information over the phone
- Hang up and contact the New Haven Police Department at 203-946-6316
- Never send money or gift cards
