Knife-Swinging Woman Arrested Following New Haven Stabbing: PD

Residents didn't take too kindly to the woman swinging a knife around and jumped on her after she tripped on a curb, police said.

NEW HAVEN, CT—Police arrested a woman who reportedly stabbed another woman and violently swung a knife around, according to police.

Police went to Franklin Street and found Whitney Langford of New Haven lying in the street and covered in blood. A 58-year-old woman was nearby and sustained a stab wound to her stomach, said Officer David Hartman, police spokesman.

A knife was spotted in a nearby storm drain.

A witness and relative of the stabbing victim said the victim was heading to the liquor store when Langford confronted her and swung a knife, Hartman said. An argument ensued and Langford was stabbed.

Langford tried to run away but tripped on a curb. Several people jumped on Langford when she fell and began to beat her up.

Another witness said Langford was near the community room of the Farnam Court housing complex earlier and appeared to be on drugs, Hartman said.

A third witness (the original 911 caller) said she spotted Langford on the ground and asked if she was alright. Langford got up and started swinging a knife around.

Several people reported Langford stabbed a man, but the incident hasn't been confirmed and no one has come forward to police.

Both women's injuries are non-life threatening.

Langford, who was hospitalized after she was beaten, will be charged by warrant – likely for second degree assault, first degree reckless endangerment, weapon possession and trespassing
