Long Wharf Theatre Fires Director After Sex Misconduct Claims

The director came under fire after multiple reports of sexual misconduct surfaced.

NEW HAVEN, CT — The Long Wharf Theatre's board of trustees voted Tuesday to fire Artistic Director Gordon Edelstein after the New York Times ran a piece about sexual misconduct allegations against him. Edelstein was put on administrative leave Monday.

The board also voted to combine the artistic and administrative leadership duties into the managing director position, according to a statement released by the board of trustees

The board also voted to engage a third party to conduct an internal review of staff and board policies regarding reporting instances of misconduct.

"The board and management of Long Wharf Theatre take seriously the need to ensure a fair, equitable, open and supportive theatre workplace," the board said in its statement. "This is a time that demands sober self-reflection and openness."
