Machete-Wielding Man Fatally Shot By Neighbor In New Haven
New Haven police said the man was shot after neighbors claimed he was carrying a machete through a hallway and banging on doors.

NEW HAVEN, CT — A New Haven man was fatally shot by his neighbor after police said the man was going door-to-door in his apartment building wielding a machete.
New Haven police were dispatched to an upper floor of a building located at 321 Eastern St. shortly before 5:30 p.m. Friday after receiving multiple 911 calls about a man who was carrying a machete through the hallway and banging on doors. Callers also reported hearing gunshots in the building.
Police later determined the man — identified as 56-year-old John Reynolds — was fatally shot by another building resident after the pair got into an altercation.

Reynolds — who police said possibly had a history of mental health problems and may have been under the influence at the time of the incident — died at the scene. He was taken to the medical examiner's office for an autopsy, police said.
The person who police said shot Reynolds has not been arrested. It's unclear if they will face charges.
