Man Accused Of Stabbing Person During Fight In New Haven

NEW HAVEN, CT — A man is facing charges after police said he stabbed a person during a fight and stole several items belonging to the victim.

According to New Haven police, officers were called to the area of 351 Whaley Ave. shortly before 10:20 p.m. Friday. When they arrived, they found 34-year-old Yannick Williams, who told officers he had been hit in the head with a bottle.

As Williams was treated by medics, a knife with blood on it was found in one of his socks, police said.

Around the same time, police were dispatched to the Yale-New Haven Hospital St. Raphael's campus after a 27-year-old man walked in and claimed he was stabbed by Williams.

According to police, the victim said he, Williams and several friends were "hanging out" when Williams became "disrespectful." A fight ensued, and the victim told police he used a bottle to defend himself.

Before leaving the scene of the stabbing, police said Williams stole several items belonging to the victim.

The victim's injuries were not life-threatening, police said.

Williams was charged with second-degree assault and third-degree larceny, according to authorities. He is currently being held on $50,000 bond.
