Man Charged With Shooting 13-Year-Old: New Haven PD

The 13-year-old was shot in the leg.

NEW HAVEN, CT — A 21-year-old man was charged with shooting a 13-year-old boy over the weekend. The victim was shot in the leg and sustained a non-life threatening injury July 22 in the area of Shelton Avenue and Ivy Street.

Charles Worthington of Lilac Street was arrested July 25 at his home. He was charged with first-degree assault, carrying a pistol without a permit and risk of injury to a minor. He is being held on a $1 million bond.

“This was a crime solved by not only law enforcement, but by members of our community as well. We place great value on the relationships we have with folks in the neighborhoods we serve”, said Lt. Herb Johnson, head of detectives. “The case’s lead investigator, Detective Dennis O’Connell and his supervisor, Sergeant Ron Perry worked this case for three days straight through."

Assistant Chief Archie Generoso said police also got assistance from State Attorney Pat Griffin and his team as well as U.S. Marshals Task Force.

"This was an around-the- clock operation that resulted in the speedy arrest of a man suspected to have shot a teenager”, he said.
