Man Critical After New Haven Assault: PD
The victim sustained severe head and facial injuries.
NEW HAVEN, CT — A 62-year-old city man is in critical condition after an assault on the lower city Green Thursday.
Police responded around 11:15 p.m. and an officer nearby spotted a man matching the perpetrator's description, said Officer David Hartman, police spokesman.
William McKinney, 39, claimed self-defense when questioned by police. A bludgeoning weapon was located with the victim, Hartman said.
The victim is in critical condition with severe head and facial injuries.
McKinney was charged with first-degree assault.
