Press release
New Haven Academy’s Legacy Studios Drama Club presents the last show of our inaugural 2023 - ‘24 season - "In The Heights" conceived by Lin-Manuel Miranda. The shows opens May 2nd through May 4th at the Wilbur Cross Auditorium - 181 Mitchell Drive New Haven, CT 06511
New Haven, CT — In The Heights tells the universal story of a vibrant Cuban, Dominican, and Puerto Rican community in New York City’s Washington Heights neighborhood—a place where the coffee from the bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open, and the streets explode with the songs and rhythms of three generations. It’s a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams, and pressures, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind. In The Heights is the winner of the 2008 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Score, Best Choreography, and Best Orchestrations.

This year’s performance season at New Haven Academy grew out of our current performance space extremely quickly. Our small but mighty performing arts program grew from just a small 17 students to almost 60 students both onstage and backstage for productions this year. This season (being our first season of shows) aims to reflect the strengths and the challenges that people face in making difficult decisions in life. And to embrace diversity that can affect social change. In this moment of possible political change and unrest, this story reminds us of the common strength we can find in community and gives us a renewed sense of the possibility of creating a new world of hope, compassion, and joy.
In The Heights runs May 2nd to 4th in the Wilbur Cross Auditorium at Wilbur Cross High School (181 Mitchell Drive, New Haven, CT 06511). Performances take place Thursday and Friday at 7:35pm, and Saturday at 11:05am & 4:35pm. Appropriate for middle school students and above. The production features a full band of eight professional musicians, all led by the incomparable Kevin James (Music Director).
