New Haven Among Safest Cities For Bikers

New Haven was the only East Coast city to be ranked among the top 10 safest for bikers by ADT.

NEW HAVEN, CT — A new ranking by ADT puts New Haven has the 10th safest city in the nation for bikers. The Elm City was the only city on the East Coast to make the top 10.

ADT used data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, People for Bikes, the U.S. Census and The League of American Bicyclists to compile the rankings. ADT looked at factors including fatal crashes involving bicyclists, number of bike commuters and protected bike lanes.

Connecticut overall ranked 24th in The League of American Bicyclists 2017 Bicycle Friendly State Report Card report.

New Haven has a bike sharing program called Bike New Haven. People can download an app that allows them to rent a bicycle for a 45 minute ride. A single ride costs $1.75 and there are deals for students, seniors and extended pass holders.
