NEW HAVEN, CT — The Webster Bank on Whalley Avenue was robbed Saturday morning and it bears some similarities to a string of robberies in the city.

A man carrying a backpack jumped over the counter before 9:30 a.m. and demanded money. He stuffed cash from teller drawers into his backpack and ran out of the bank, said Capt. Anthony Duff, police spokesman.

Dye-stained money was found in the neighborhood during a police canvas. They also impounded a vehicle on Austin Street that may have been used by the suspect.
