New Haven Businesswoman Reportedly Buys Hair Salon For $1

Kathy Moura worked at Pio of Italy for 15 years. Now she owns it.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Talk about a bargain! After working there for the last 15 years, Kathy Moura recently bought New Haven's Pio of Italy Hair Studio for $1 from 79-year-old owner Pio Imperati, reported the New Haven Register.

With the purchase, Moura, a Naugatuck resident, became the first person in her family to own a business. As part of the deal, she pays rent to Imperati, and the legendary hair specialist now works for her.

Pio of Italy has been in business in New Haven for more than 50 years, making the $1 purchase price for a thriving, long-standing business and equipment — currently located on Whalley Avenue — the deal of a lifetime for Moura.
