New Haven Camp Easy Breezy Is Tackling City’s Childhood Asthma Epidemic
Camp Easy Breezy offers six weeks of fun for New Haven children suffering from asthma
Did you know that New Haven has the highest asthma hospitalization rate in the state - five times higher than the state average? Camp Easy Breezy, a New Haven Health Department initiative, is being held for the second summer to help tackle the childhood asthma epidemic in the city.
Camp Easy Breezy will teach children suffering from asthma and their siblings how to use their asthma medications, identify asthma trigger, and better control their asthma while enjoying traditional camp activities with friends. A registered nurse will be on-site during normal camp hours and on field trips.
“Camp Easy Breezy is just one of our many initiatives the City of New Haven is doing to lower the impact of asthma on low-income children,” said Dr. Byron Kennedy, executive director, New Haven Health Department. “By bringing together the health, education, youth services and housing sectors, the New Haven Health Alliance is working to better the health for our most vulnerable populations.”
