New Haven City Worker Assaulted

A parking enforcement officer was knocked unconscious during an attack, police said.

NEW HAVEN, CT — A city parking employee was assaulted in front of 205 Orange Street Wednesday, according to police.

The 39-year-old parking enforcement officer said that he heard footsteps behind him and that someone yelled an obscenity and then struck him in the head, said Capt. Anthony Duff, police spokesman.

The worker briefly lost consciousness. and was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital.

"Witnesses described the assailant as a black male in his twenties to thirties in age, about six feet tall with a thin build," Duff said. "At the time of the attack, he was wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans. The attacker was seen getting into the rear seat of an older, rusty, tan or orange/brown four door sedan. The vehicle was last seen traveling on Court Street towards State Street. "
