New Haven Employee Assaults Coworker With Gun: PD

A city employee was arrested after he assaulted a coworker following a dispute, police said.

NEW HAVEN, CT — A New Haven Public Works employee was arrested after he pistol-whipped a coworker following a dispute, according to police.

Police responded to a reported assault outside a Middletown Avenue residence Wednesday morning.

"Police believe the incident stemmed from an ongoing dispute between two off-duty City of New Haven Public Works employees who had finished their shift and left work prior to the encounter," said Officer David Hartman, police spokesman.

Henry Bell, 51, confronted a coworker and began hitting the victim in the head with the handgun. The gun discharged during the incident, Hartman said. Bell fled in a motor vehicle. The victim sustained minor facial injuries and was treated at a hospital.

Bell was taken into custody by police Thursday morning. He is charged with criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit, second degree assault with a firearm, first-degree threatening, unlawful discharge of a firearm, first-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree breach of peace.
