New Haven Father Charged With Beating Infant Son: PD
The father slapped the baby hard enough to bruise the child, police said.
A New Haven father was charged with beating his crying infant son.
Police went to Yale-New Haven Hospital along with the Department of Children and Families to investigate how a 5-month-old baby sustained bruising and scratches to his face.
The baby’s mother said she last saw her son uninjured at 5:30 p.m. with father Aaron Lamson, 22.

Lamson later picked up the mother from work in Shelton and drove to Sandy Hook to meet the baby’s grandmother who was giving the couple gas money, said Officer David Hartman, police spokesman.
The woman and her mother noticed the injuries and agreed to bring the baby to the hospital.

Lamson left the two women with the baby at the hospital because he had to be at work later that evening, Hartman said. He reportedly told the baby’s mother that the baby must’ve hit his head against the car seat earlier in the day.
The bruise was in the shape of a person’s hand, Hartman said.
Lamson was later interviewed by police after he came back to the hospital.
Lamson claimed the baby may have been injured in his car seat or it was possible his brother injured the baby when he left them alone for a bit, Hartman said. His story of driving between Shelton, New Haven and back to Shelton in a short amount of time didn’t add up.
Eventually Lamson changed his story when police showed him a picture of his child’s injuries. He said the baby was crying during the hour when he was waiting for the child’s mother to get out of work, Hartman said.
His dog escaped his car and then began drinking his iced tea. He became increasingly frustrated with that and the baby’s crying and slapped the baby with an open hand.
He said he didn’t think he slapped the baby hard, but realized it was hard when shown the bruising.
Lamson was arrested and charged with risk of injury to a minor and assault in the third degree – both under family violence. The crime occurred in Shelton but because it involved a felony, NHPD made the arrest. Lamson’s case will, however be heard at court in Derby.
