New Haven Kicks Off Diabetes Pilot Program

The press conference will be held Wednesday, March 30 with officials of the Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center and ECC/HANH.

Mayor Toni N. Harp will be joined Wednesday, March 30 by officials of the Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center and Elm City Communities/Housing Authority of New Haven (ECC/HANH) for a press conference to kick off a new city partnership to screen, educate, diagnose and treat housing authority residents for type 2 diabetes. The pilot program is made possible through a $67,440 grant provided by the Philip Marett Trust Fund and its co-trustee, Bank of America, N.A. The press conference is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at the Constance Baker Motley complex, located at 819 Sherman Parkway.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), nearly 30 million Americans have diabetes and 86 million more have a condition known as prediabetes. The CDC estimates that 90 percent of those with prediabetes don’t know they have it. These statistics add to the urgency of this new partnership in New Haven.
