New Haven Learns 'It Pays to Quit,' after Police Chief Esserman's Resignation: Report
The former chief received a tidy compensation package from the city.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Former Police Chief Dean Esserman received a compensation package of $99,500, in addition to the city paying his health care costs for several years, under the terms of his agreement to resign from the New Haven Police Department, reports the New Haven Independent.
The controversial former chief resigned on Sept. 2, and subsequently landed a job at Quinnipiac University. Esserman negotiated his exit from the New Haven force with Mayor Toni Harp, after members of the department and community had lost faith in him.
Prior to his resignation, Esserman served as chief for just under five years, but he was embroiled in multiple incidents where his behavior was questioned.
