New Haven Man, 27, Gets 5-Year Prison For Firearm Possession: Feds

NEW HAVEN, CT —A 27-year-old New Haven man was sentenced to serve five years in federal prison on a firearm conviction, according to the U.S. Attorney.

Tyrone Brown pleaded guilty in April to illegally possessing a gun, namely a loaded 9mm semi-automatic pistol found by cops in a court-ordered search of his Stevens Street home in August 2021, US Attorney for Connecticut, Vanessa Roberts Avery said.

After he serves the five-year bid, he'll have three years of supervised release, Avery said.

Brown’s criminal history includes state felony convictions for firearm, robbery, burglary, and larceny offenses, court records show.

It's a violation of federal law for someone with felony convictions to have a firearm or ammunition that has moved in interstate or foreign commerce, federal prosecutors said.

The case, investigated by the ATF and the New Haven Police Department, was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kenneth L. Gresham.
