New Haven Man, 27, Gets 5 Year Prison On Gun, Drug Conviction: Feds

NEW HAVEN, CT —A 27-year-old New Haven man was sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court to serve five years in federal prison for possessing a firearm in furtherance of his drug trafficking activities, according to prosecutors.

Trea Fraser, who pleaded guilty in November 2021, has been detained since his federal arrest in March 2021, prosecutors said.

According to Vanessa Roberts Avery, US Attorney for Connecticut., between October and December 2020, investigators made controlled purchases of crack cocaine from Fraser. On February 9, 2021, a search of Fraser’s residence revealed quantities of crack cocaine and heroin, ammunition and $3,900 in cash, according to federal authorities. A search of his vehicle revealed approximately 100 grams of cocaine and a loaded .45 caliber Glock 41 handgun, the US Attorney said in a news release.

Fraser’s criminal history includes state convictions for firearm and drug offenses, and for witness tampering related to his attempt to have a witness to a shooting incident change his statement, prosecutors said.

The case, part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, was being investigated by the FBI New Haven Safe Streets Gang Task Force and the West Haven Police Department. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Konstantin Lantsman.
