Shaquil Gary was charged federally for being a felon in possession of a firearm, prosecutors said.

NEW HAVEN, CT —A 29-year-old New Haven man has been charged federally for being a felon in possession of a firearm, prosecutors said.

U. S. Attorney for Connecticut Vanessa Roberts Avery announced Tuesday that a federal grand jury returned an indictment charging Shaquil Gary. He entered a plea of not guilty in a New Haven federal courtroom, per Avery.

As alleged in the indictment, Avery said, on April 19, Gary had a loaded Glock model 17, 9mm pistol. His criminal history includes a federal felony conviction for armed robbery and state felony convictions for the sale and possession of narcotics, federal prosecutors noted. It is a violation of federal law for a person previously convicted of a felony offense to possess a firearm or ammunition that has moved in interstate or foreign commerce.
