New Haven Man, 29, Gunned Down On George Street Tuesday Night: Police

A 911 call and Shotspotter alert came in at 10 p.m. about a shooting on George Street, but the man shot was found by cops on Chapel Street.

NEW HAVEN, CT — A 29-year-old New Haven man was shot in the area of Chapel and George streets Tuesday night, police said.

At around 10 p.m., cops got a Shotspotter alert of gunfire on George Street, and a call about a person shot on Chapel Street. Officers found the 29-year-old New Haven man on Chapel Street, between Orchard and Beers streets, who had been struck by gunfire, police spokesperson Scott Shumway said.

The man was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, Shumway said.

The New Haven police Bureau of Identification found the crime scene on George Street, by Day Street, and there, collected ballistic evidence. Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit are leading the investigation.
