NEW HAVEN, CT — Quinn Mooring, 40, of New Haven pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon in federal court, according to prosecutors.

In March 2021, ATF Task Force officers learned that Mooring was getting firearms from a source in South Carolina, the Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut said. According to court documents and statements made in court, he was "selling them in Connecticut," prosecutors said.

On April 19, 2021, investigators did a controlled buy of a 9mm Glock handgun and a drum magazine from Mooring, and a co-conspirator, in New Haven for $1,500, prosecutors said. The firearm was one of five 9mm handguns bought by a person prosecutors don't name in a Port Royal, South Carolina, pawn shop a month before the controlled buy.

Three days after the first controlled buy, investigators made another of 9mm ammunition from Mooring in New Haven, per the US Attorney.

Mooring's criminal history includes state convictions for felony robbery, unlawful restraint and failure to appear offenses, prosecutors said. It is a violation of federal law for a person previously convicted of a felony offense to possess a firearm or ammunition that has moved in interstate or foreign commerce.
