New Haven Man Charged In Fatal DUI Crash In North Haven: Police

The driver was arrested following an extensive investigation, according to police.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — A New Haven man has been arrested in connection with a fatal crash in North Haven in September, according to police.

Donny Oliveira, 45, was arrested Friday, Jan. 16, following a months-long investigation, according to North Haven police.

Oliveira was charged with misconduct with a motor vehicle, evading responsibility, operating under the influence of drugs / alcohol, operating without minimum insurance, improper use of marker plate, operation of an unregistered motor vehicle, and operating a motor vehicle with unsafe tires.

“We understand members of the community may have questions about why an arrest occurred months after the crash,” police wrote in a news release. “Serious-crash investigations take time and require a thorough, step-by-step process, including evidence review, witness interviews, analysis of vehicle and scene information, and consultation with specialists when needed. Our responsibility is to ensure the case is investigated completely and professionally before charges are sought.

“We extend our continued condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones, and we appreciate the community’s patience as investigators worked to ensure this case was handled thoroughly and correctly.”
