New Haven Man Critically Wounded In Overnight Howard Ave. Shooting: PD

NEW HAVEN, CT —An overnight shooting on Howard Avenue Friday left a New Haven man critically wounded, cops said.
It was just before 2 a.m., when cops got a Shot Spotter "activation of four rounds and a person that was shot," New Haven police Capt. Rose Dell said.
When cops got to the 600-block of Howard, they found a 44-year-old man who was shot in the forearm, abdomen, and groin, she said. Taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital, he's in critical condition, Dell said.

Dell said that while cops were investigating the shooting, other cops nearby saw "a crowd near the library and a male subject (who) took off running towards Daggett Street." She said cops "chased him through multiple yards and over a couple of fences (and) caught up to him in a backyard, searched him and found a gun in his coat pocket. The person, who she doesn't name, was arrested for possession of a firearm, but noted that "a connection between this incident and the shooting has not been established yet."
Detectives from the NHPD Major Crimes Division are in the area searching for witnesses and
video surveillance, police said.
