New Haven Man Dies At Osborn Correctional Institution In Somers
Officials said the 45-year-old man was found unresponsive in his cell Sunday afternoon and later died at a local hospital.
NEW HAVEN, CT — A 45-year-old New Haven man died Sunday after he was found unresponsive in his cell at Osborn Correctional Institution in Somers, according to the Connecticut Department of Correction.
The agency said a correction officer conducting a regular tour at about 1:30 p.m. on March 22 found Craig Whyte unresponsive in his cell.
Staff immediately began emergency lifesaving measures. Paramedics from a local ambulance company also responded and continued efforts to revive Whyte while transporting him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:31 p.m., officials said.

Whyte had been serving a 33-month sentence for threatening, according to the Department of Correction.
Connecticut State Police arrived at the prison at about 4 p.m. Sunday to begin an investigation, the agency said.

The facility was placed on lockdown status following the death.
The Department of Correction Security Division and Connecticut State Police are investigating. The exact cause of death will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
