New Haven Man Had Loaded Handgun On Roof: Police

NEW HAVEN, CT —A New Haven man was arrested after police said they found him on a roof with a handgun. Travis Tremayne Stevens, 46, was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit, and third-degree trespassing.

Police said they received a call shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday regarding a man running through yards in East Rock. Several callers reported that the man was asking for help because someone was after him.

In the area of Livingston and Avon streets, a caller described the man as having a handgun, according to police.

Responding officers searched the area and found the man holding a gun and hiding on the roof of a garage at a Livingston Street residence. Police ordered the man to put the gun down and climb down.

Stevens left the gun on the garage roof and climbed down. Officers took him into custody without further incident. An officer borrowed a neighbor’s ladder, climbed to the garage roof, and recovered the loaded handgun.

In a nearby Orange Street rear yard, police said they later located a bag containing cocaine, crack cocaine, heroin, and drug paraphernalia.

Investigators have not connected the drugs to Stevens.

He was released on $50,000 bond and will appear in court July 22.
