New Haven Man Pulled Gun From Pants, Threatened Bar Owner: Feds

A city man was sentenced in a weapons and narcotics case.

NEW HAVEN, CT — A city man was sentenced to 45 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for firearm and narcotics violations, according to a statement from federal prosecutors. Michael Davis, aka "Clep," "Clip," and "Michael Smith," 33, pleaded guilty in April to one count of possession of a firearm by a previously convicted felon, and one count of possession of heroin with intent to distribute.

On Dec. 4 of last year, Davis was told to leave a New Haven bar after an altercation with a bouncer. He then went outside, pulled a handgun with an extended magazine out of his pants, and threatened to shoot the bar owner, according to the statement.

He was arrested Dec. 7. Police found distribution quantities of heroin and cocaine on his person. A subsequent search of his vehicle revealed a Smith & Wesson SD 40 handgun.

Davis’s criminal history includes multiple felony convictions for narcotics offenses and a conviction for escape in the first degree, according to the statement.

This matter was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the New Haven Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Nathaniel Gentile.
