NEW HAVEN, CT - The Transportation Security Administration arrested a New Haven man on weapons charges Saturday at LaGuardia Airport in New York after he allegedly tried to bring multiple deadly weapons in his carry-on luggage onto a plane.

Authorities did not release the suspect's name, but they said that the weapons he allegedly tried to bring on-board including a dagger, three throwing knives, a traditional throwing star and an expandable throwing star.

He was stopped and detained by TSA officers at the checkpoint until Port Authority Police arrived and confiscated the martial arts weapons and arrested the suspect.

"This incident serves as a reminder that passengers are responsible for the contents of bags they bring to the security checkpoint, and TSA’s advice to passengers is to look through bags thoroughly before coming to the airport to make sure there are no illegal or prohibited items," TSA officials said in a statement.

Officials added that TSA personnel screens more than 2 million passengers and their luggage daily for prohibited items, including weapons and explosives. The administration uses imaging technology to do this, safely screening passengers "for any items which may be concealed under clothing, while X-ray units screen all carry-on baggage."
