STONINGTON, CT — A motorcyclist is dead following a crash with a tractor-trailer on I-95 southbound in Stonington, according to state police.

Troop E Montville responded to the call for an accident in the area of exit 91 at 11:33 a.m. Wednesday.

The motorcyclist, Shawn Twomey, 52, of New Haven, struck the rear of a tractor-trailer. He was ejected from his motorcycle and fell on the road.

Emergency responders declared Twomey dead at the scene of the accident. The tractor-trailer's driver was not injured.

State police are investigating.

Traffic on I-95 was backed up for miles following the crash. The highway didn't reopen until Wednesday night, WTNH News-8 reported.
