New Haven Police Chief Named

Interim Chief Anthony Campbell will permanently take over the position.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Interim Police Chief Anthony Campbell has been named the new permanent chief of the department.

Mayor Toni Harp said Campbell scored the highest throughout the interview process and is known for his intellect, worth ethic and compassion, according to the New Haven Register.

Campbell became an interim chief when former Chief Dean Esserman went on leave in July 2016 and later resigned.

Assistant Chief Luis Casanova and retired Assistant Chief Thaddeus Reddish were also finalists for the position.
