New Haven Police Investigate Monday Morning 'Shooting Hoax'

Police said a student at a nearby school falsely reported that someone was shot on Hallock Avenue, between Sargent Drive and 4th Street.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Monday morning police got a call that someone was shot on Hallock Avenue, between Sargent Drive and Fourth Street, New Haven police spokesperson Officer Scott Shumway said. When police got there, they found no one had been shot nor any evidence of a shooting, he said.

"The officers continued their investigation and found the incident to be a hoax perpetrated by a juvenile student at Riverside Academy," Shumway said. He said no charges have "been filed yet" but the incident remains under investigation.

Police ask that any witnesses who have not yet spoken with the Police contact the New Haven Police Department Investigative Services Division at 203-946-6304.
