New Haven Police Investigate Vandalism At Synagogue

Police are investigating following a vandalism incident that caused $5,000 damage to a Westville synagogue.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Police are investigating a vandalism incident at a Westville synagogue. According to police, a caller reported finding damage to three exterior window panes near the front of the synagogue.

An arriving officer inspected the damage and upon further investigation determined the projectile holes were caused by pellets from a BB gun.

The vandalism caused an estimated $5,000 in damage, police said.

Investigators canvassed the area and confirmed the incident occurred sometime between Friday, April 10, and Tuesday, April 14.

Residents told police about teenagers playing in the street near the synagogue on Friday afternoon; an unreported sound of possible gunfire on an adjacent street on Friday night; and an unreported sound of glass breaking but nothing unusual seen on Sunday night.

Neighbors reported no similar vandalism incidents and investigators have found no motive for what is believed to be a random incident.
