Police Identify Suspect In New Haven Armed Standoff

Police have identified the man involved in an hours-long standoff with police Thursday in which a woman was held as a hostage.

NEW HAVEN, CT – Police have identified the man involved in an hours-long armed standoff with police Thursday in which a woman was held as a hostage on Henry Street.

David George Williams, 45, was transported to a local hospital for a medical evaluation and is being held under police guard, according to police.

Criminal charges are pending and will be announced when Williams is transferred to the New Haven Police Department Union Avenue Detention Center, police said.

New Haven Police responded to the scene early Thursday morning.

Around 9 a.m., the woman had been released and was receiving assistance from the New Haven Police Department Special Victims Unit, according to a tweet posted to the New Haven Police Twitter account.

Several streets in the area were closed as police worked the scene.
