New Haven Schools' 'Day of Hope and Healing' Set For Friday

Tuesday at Truman School, New Haven schools Superintendent Dr. Iline Tracey will share plans for the 'Day of Hope and Healing.'

NEW HAVEN, CT — Tuesday, New Haven schools Superintendent Dr. Iline Tracey will share plans for a Day of Hope and Healing, set for Friday.

At the Truman School, Tracey will announce the planned activities and presentations "intended to foster social emotional learning," according to the school district.

A news briefing will be held in the sensory hallway and include Supervisor of Social Emotional Learning Monica Abbott and Truman School Principal Kathleen Mattern.

Sensory hallways are designed to improve student focus and prevent disruptive behaviors from occurring in the classroom environment. After following the sensory path, students can return to the classroom more focused and ready to learn.

As described by the school district, "Social emotional learning is the process through which young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions."
