NEW HAVEN, CT — Wednesday afternoon, cops were called to the John C. Daniels School on Congress Avenue for a report that a staff member hit a child, police said.

When officers got there, they "developed probable cause" that a paraprofessional struck a six-year-old student during lunch, police said.

The paraprofessional, Chevonne Boone, 48, of New Haven, was taken into custody and charged with risk of injury to a minor, third-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace.

She was held on $10,000 bond, police said.
