New Haven Schools Will Buyout Superintendent's Contract: Report
Superintendent Dr. Carol Birks will reportedly leave after a year and four months on the job.

NEW HAVEN, CT — The Board of Education reached a consensus on buying out Superintendent Carol Birks' contract in an executive session, according to WTNH. Birks has three years remaining on her contract, which was worth $700,000 plus an additional $30,000 in deferred compensation.
A board member told WTNH that they hope the superintendent will be relieved of duties prior to the next meeting on July 8.
Birks joined the district as its first female leader in March 2018. She has come under scrutiny recently due to budgetary issues and proposed teacher pension cuts, The New Haven Register reported.
