New Haven Shooting Investigated

The victim pulled out his knife during the robbery, but was shot.

NEW HAVEN, CT — A 50-year-old man was shot Monday night in the area of Liberty and Portsea streets.

The victim told police he was walking in the area when he was approached by a man with a semiautomatic handgun who demanded his valuables, said Officer David Hartman, police spokesman.

The victim took out a pocket knife and the robber told him to drop it; he then shot the victim in the leg before taking most of his cash and fleeing the scene.
