New Haven Teen Killed In Hit-And-Run, Driver ID'd: PD
New Haven teen Christopher Franco was killed in a hit-and-run crash. He was a 2018 Common Ground High School graduate.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Police have identified the woman who is accused of a hit-and-run crash that killed Christopher Franco, 18, of New Haven Friday night. A good Samaritan followed the car and police quickly detained the woman driver.
Franco and a 15-year-old teen were riding on a scooter when they were hit by the vehicle on Forbes Avenue, said Capt. Anthony Duff, police spokesman. Police found the car's front bumper at the scene.
Franco was pronounced dead at the hospital and the 15-year-old was reported to still be in critical condition Sunday.

Judy Gomez, 55, of East Haven was charged with felony evading responsibility and was held in lieu of $200,000 bail.
Franco's family thanked the unnamed witness who followed Gomez's vehicle and called police, according to WTNH.

Christopher Franco, 18 of New Haven died suddenly at Yale-New Haven Hospital on Friday, July 26, 2019 from injuries sustained earlier in a motor vehicle accident. Christopher was born in Hartford on June 30, 2001, a beloved son of Avelino and Piedad Monroy Franco and was a lifelong New Haven resident.
He was a 2018 graduate of Common Ground High School of New Haven. He is also survived by his sister Julyanna Franco and two brothers, Miguel and Carlos Granda, all of New Haven, his maternal grandparents Agustin Monroy and Elvia Palacio of Medellin, Colombia, and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents Avelino Franco, Sr. and Irene Vega Franco .Christopher's family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, July 31 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be private.
