Officers located 12 cartridge casings in the road and ballistic evidence was found over an entire block on Read Street from Shelton Avenue to Goodyear Street, Hartman said.

A witness said there were men near a rear yard on Read Street and one of them appeared to hide beneath a Honda as officers searched.

Recovered evidence suggests that shots were fired from more than one gun.

The victim is in stable condition and is expected to recover.

"Police are asking for the public’s help to solve this most awful assault," Hartman said. "Anyone who witnessed this crime being committed or who has information on the perpetrators’ identities, are urged to phone police."
