New Haven Young Man Lauded For Saving Siblings From Fire

A young man from New Haven is being recognized for saving his six siblings from a fire Thursday night.

NEW HAVEN, CT — A young man is being heralded after he saved his six siblings from a house fire in New Haven Thursday night, FOX 61 reported. Firefighters responded to the call for a fire at the third-story of a home on Newhall Street around 9 p.m.

The young man, Tyhed Scurry, heard about the fire from a cousin nearby and quickly went to bring his six siblings out to safety. His parents were out on an errand when the blaze broke out.

Witnesses said that flames could be seen coming out of the building's windows, according to FOX 61. There were no injuries but the family's dog—described as a gray pit bull puppy—could not be located.

Fire officials said the blaze was contained to the attic of the three-story, single family home and that there was smoke and water damage to the lower floors, according to WTNH News-8.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
